Homo Sapiens

Director: Nikolaus Geyrhalter

Tuesday  |  19.11  |  21:00 - 22:30

Soccer Field

Geyrhalter takes us on a gripping and moving visual journey through deserted sites around the world: from the Fukushima exclusion zone, through desolate hospitals and schools, to forsaken shopping centers, to expose the way nature overcomes humanity. The director uses no voice-over, no talking heads, no human presence nor text of any kind to present a long and well-designed series of static shots, at an effective pace and with an intelligent soundtrack. The result is a contemporary perspective, which - even before invoking questions about human relation to nature - is an instantly stimulating work of art.

Boundaries of Perception - Curated by Daniela Arriado

To perceive is to be aware, to grasp and to recognise. It’s our senses, our taste and feeling about something or someone...It is the image. How do we define the basis of visualisation? How do we challenge the modes of communication through the image? How far can we go in abstracting and manipulating our perception and illusion of time, space and sound…until it’s not perceivable anymore? What is the core in our own perception? This selection presents art works exploring the boundaries of perception and modes of interpretation of time. Artists: Irene Cruz, Levi van Veluw.

Native Strangers - Curated by Daniela Arriado

These artists bring into focus the complexity of the relation between human and nature, but also the relationship of nature and culture in our current situation. These works undertake and remediates these matters through poetic encounters with nature, and that by simple poetical gestures and a contemplative narrative, insist on a moment of reflection. Artists: Irene Cruz, Nicolás Rupcich, Chrischa Venus Oswald, shingo yoshida.

Nervous Systems is a GIF and Video Art series conveying an esoteric view of the Internet as the functional extension of the human nervous system and its connection to the Earth. The series visualizes the progression from the primordial telecommunication of the natural world through mycelial networks, to the physical broadcast antenna of the human nervous system, into the Internet as the ethereal extension of humanity as it attempts to coalesce into a unified organism through its technology.   The series merges the Materialist and the Mystical in considering the unseen messaging systems within and without.
